THE ART AND CRAFT OF BLOGGING
On-site four Wednesdays, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. (March 3 and 10, April 7 and 21, 2010)
1200 Atwater Avenue, Suite 3
Workshop leader: Dana Bath
The blog is a medium that lends itself to many forms of expression. Blogs can be a platform for commentary, personal narrative, fiction, poetry and a host of other kinds of writing.
In this workshop, you will set up a blog in which you will write about a topic that is important to you. We will then develop our blogs over the following eight weeks, posting at least weekly. A minimum of workshop time will be spent on the technical aspects of blogging; our focus will be on the personal, literary and community potential of blogs. Through the creation of our own small “blog network,” we will give each other feedback through online comments, face-to-face discussion and more formal responses. We will meet four times during the eight weeks; our other interactions will take place online.
Technical Requirements: Computer and internet access is required for this workshop. Access to a laptop computer that you can bring to workshop meetings is essential.
Dana Bath is the author of a novel, Plenty of Harm in God, and two collections of short stories, What Might Have Been Rain and Universal Recipients. She has won and been nominated for a number of literary awards. She teaches English literature at Vanier College, and often uses blogging as a learning tool in her classroom. She keeps a popular pseudonymous blog about education.
