Fiction, Screenwriting & Playwriting
Ann Lambert’s first novel, The Birds That Stay, was a finalist for the Concordia Best First Book Prize in 2019, and her second book, The Dogs of Winter, was a finalist for the Canadian Crime Writers Award of Excellence, and won an Audiophile award. Her third book, Whale Fall, came out in 2022. All three books were released as audiobooks narrated by Ann herself.
Ann has also written over 22 plays for the stage and radio over forty years in the theatre. Several of her plays have been performed in Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia. Ann is the former head of The Playwriting Program at the National Theatre School of Canada.
Ann is the co-founder of Theatre Ouest End in Montreal, which is dedicated to producing new work that brings together an intergenerational community of both emerging and experienced theatre artists. Ann taught English literature at Dawson College for almost 30 years, and in the last 13 years, she wrote, directed, and produced student shows with The Dawson Theatre Collective.
I would love to do a reading and discussion of some of the issues my books and plays look at, exploring what stories and themes resonate most personally for the students. I am happy to discuss any questions about research, inspiration, process, and getting a play from the page to the stage, or a novel from the laptop to a publisher.

Fiction, Other
Mary Thaler is the creator of the webcomic Bog-haunter, and author of a half-dozen comic zines and nearly a dozen published short stories. Her eclectic writing includes historical and speculative fiction, and often draws on her background doing scientific fieldwork. Mary would be happy to lead an interactive workshop on “Turning Your Story into a Graphic Novel Script.” Consisting of a series of hands-on activities to help move from a prose mindset to visual storytelling, the workshop encourages writers of all artistic backgrounds to vanquish self-doubt and dive into this exciting medium. Mary can answer practical questions about technique, reaching an audience, and building career. She is also able, if desired, to lead a workshop on writing short fiction, or to participate in readings or panel discussions.
