DESCRIPTION:Join us at Café Résonance for a triple launch of McGill-Queen’s University Press’s Hugh McClennan Poetry Series autumn releases: Rail by Miranda Pearson\, Ganymede’s Dog by John Emil Vincent\, and The Danger Model by Madelaine Caritas Longman. \nRail is Miranda Pearson’s fifth book of poetry. In this collection\, spanning the personal and the political\, Kentish pathways lead to London\, to Yorkshire\, to Faroe\, then circle back to the west coast of Canada. An appeal\, a railing against\, these poems reach for beauty and compassion amidst uneasy global upheaval. \nJohn Emil Vincent’s Ganymede’s Dog mingles tales from the classical past with contemporary sexuality and timeless dogs. Deeply infused with gay culture and mythology\, Ganymede’s Dog is a collection of smart\, knowing\, allusive\, often ironic poems that ponder the boundaries of legend and the privileges of youth and beauty. \nMadelaine Caritas Longman’s debut poetry collection\, The Danger Model\, confronts questions about art\, illness\, identity\, and the paradox of authenticity. Examining what it means to be a “self” in contexts as diverse as the medical system\, performance art\, queer adolescence\, and Talmudic debate\, The Danger Model is an investigation of how we come to recognize – or not recognize – ourselves and each other.
