SUMMARY:The Sound of Dogs
DESCRIPTION:An Imago Theatre and The Sound of Dogs Collective Co-Production \nCentaur Theatre’s Brave New Looks Selection for 2026/27 \nThe World Premiere of \nTHE SOUND OF DOGS \nBy Jennifer Roberts \nDirected by Micheline Chevrier and Pamela Witcher \nOctober 1–10\, 2026 at Centaur Theatre \n  \nTickets: \nRegular: $34\nArts Worker/Senior: $25\nPay-What-You-Decide tickets available for all performances\, starting at $5 \nReceive 10% off your booking when you book a group of 10 or more \nApproximate runtime: 90 minutes\, followed by a 20 minute talkback with an invited guest (no talkbacks on opening night). \n\nGet tickets here. \n  \nAbout the Play: \nWhat’s it like to have Deaf parents? A wry investigation. \nCODA is a hearing child of Deaf parents. She has always seen her life as normal despite being told otherwise. Again. And again. And again. \nIn an attempt to explain her life to curious outsiders\, CODA invites us into her world\, as she traces the not-so-distant histories that have shaped her family and community. Through Deaf cultural storytelling and humour\, she shares personal stories and pushes back against the assumptions made about her parents. \nBlending American Sign Language\, spoken English\, and movement within a vivid digital landscape\, THE SOUND OF DOGS builds a layered world of expression and connection. Both intimate and expansive\, it celebrates the beauty and complexity of Deaf culture (with a touch of mischief). \nTHE SOUND OF DOGS was developed in collaboration with Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal. \nLearn more here. \nJennifer Roberts is a Montreal Playwright and Actor who has been at Imago and a part of our Creators Circle with THE SOUND OF DOGS. Director Micheline Chevrier was a previous Artistic and Executive Director of Imago Theatre\, most recently directing our award winning production of Redbone Coonhound. \nBoth Roberts and Chevrier collaborated with Imago on Upside Down – a series of narrative and documentary films that explore accessibility\, digital theatre\, and the creation process. Upside Down is available to stream for free on our website and is a great companion piece to THE SOUND OF DOGS.

SUMMARY:Book Marketing: From Foundations to Fun
DESCRIPTION:Open to all\nLimited to 12 participants\nOnline workshop* \n  \nSession 1—Marketing Foundations and Reaching Readers \n\nFirst hour: The basics of marketing—your foundations. Ten steps to take to ensure you hit the ground running. Important for new writers but also the core to which established authors should return to upgrade before moving on to other marketing efforts. These are crucial to your success\, but many people overlook or do them poorly\, which often leads to more expensive marketing failing. Get these in place so you can build higher.\nSecond hour: Reaching out and collaborations. Adding a mailing list and newsletter to your marketing tools and using paid newsletters while you build up your own subscribers. Seeing other authors as allies\, not competition as you reach out to wider audiences\, finding ways in which you can collaborate.\n\n  \nSession 2—Cheap\, Free\, Fun and Unusual Marketing \n\n\n\nFirst hour: 20 cheap and free marketing moves to make—this will get you moving and keep your efforts refreshed when you’re feeling stuck or tired of marketing (as we all do from time to time!). Most are free\, the rest are cheap so there’s no excuse for not having a go!\n\n\n\n\nSecond hour: Unusual marketing moves to make. Bored of all the standard marketing\, no matter how important it is? Then liven things up with creative and fun ideas that can be implemented without a vast marketing budget. These will speak to your creativity and help you stand out from the crowd.\n\nWhat should I do to prepare? \nNothing at all! Bring pen and paper so you can make copious notes and enjoy. We have a lot of material to get through but I love questions\, so ask plenty as we go along! \nAll attendees will also receive a free 1-hour recorded webinar on productivity and my book on developing your own author merchandise/swag. \n  \nFeedback from previous workshops \n\nLoved it – thank you. Very knowledgeable and experienced tutor\, brilliant advice and tips.\n\n\nPicked up so many great ideas—can’t wait to put them into practice!\n\n\nConcise\, practical presentation\, good advice\, delivered with enthusiasm and credibility. \n\n  \n*This workshop will take place online via Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants a week or so prior to the first session.   \nMelissa Addey writes richly researched historical fiction. Her novels span Ancient Rome\, medieval Morocco\, 18th-century China\, and Regency England.
