With that commitment in mind\, we are offering a fifth evening of 2 short plays\, each examining a different bite-size moral dilemma with a side of humor. \n The Last Relay  by Debra Kirshenbaum and Failure To Launch by Ann Lambert \nIt promises to be a night of dramatic readings with a difference—you\, the audience will be invited (if you want) to weigh in on the choices the characters make. Did they do the right thing? What is the right thing? His debut book\, Pen of a Ready Writer Vol. 1 (2014)\, challenges conventional perceptions of circumstance\, faith\, and emotion\, inviting readers to explore nuance from cradle to grave. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNow in its fourth year\, the Ian Ferrier Spoken Word Prize celebrates the excellence of Quebec-based artists working in English in any form of performative writing\, including poetry\, story\, monologue\, hip hop\, dub\, sound poetry\, and experimental or interdisciplinary work. The prize will be awarded to one to three winners\, to be announced at the 2025 QWF Awards Gala on Monday\, November 10.  \n\n\n\nTickets to the gala are now available for purchase. A cocktail reception with the finalists will precede the gala\, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Tickets to the reception are $60 ($40 for full-time students) and include two glasses of wine\, beer\, or non-alcoholic drink; hors d’oeuvres; and admission to the awards ceremony\, which begins at 8:00 pm. Tickets for the ceremony alone are $25 ($10 for full-time students). Recorded and edited by RASC Montreal.\n\n\n\nYou are invited to the re-launch of the poetry collection and album\, Dark Sky Preserve: A Literary and Musical Inquiry\, by the late Ian Ferrier\, Louise Campbell\, and Sarah Beth Goncarova\, from 7:00 to 9:30 pm\, on Saturday\, October 4\, 2025—International Observe the Moon Night. \n\n\n\nThis free\, bilingual event will be hosted by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada: Montreal Centre. The Bellevue Observatory is at the Morgan Arboretum in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. Activities will take place in the observatory clubhouse and outdoors on the observatory field. \n\n\n\nThe program will feature a presentation\, readings by guest poets from the QWF and La poésie partout\, an interactive learning activity\, an outdoor sound installation\, and the opportunity to observe the moon from the darkest skies on the island of Montreal. The observatory is home to an LX200 Meade SCT telescope. Additional telescopes will be on hand.Montreal’s Audiotopie will present a quadraphonic outdoor sound installation\, enabling attendees to experience the album directly on the observation field. \n\n\n\nEvent registration\, names of guest poets\, and information about transportation to and from the observatory in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue will be announced in early September.

Come as your lineage. We’ve always looked good in Black. \n\n\n\nThe Fresh Pages Guest Curatorship\n\n\n\nA component of QWF’s Fresh Pages Diversity Initiative\, the Guest Curatorship is designed to help an aspiring literary artist who is Black\, Indigenous\, or a person of colour develop skills in creating and curating literary other arts events. The selected candidate receives a modest honorarium\, mentorship from an established arts organizer\, and a free one-year membership in QWF. Learn more.  \n\n\n\nThe 2025 Guest Curator\n\n\n\nStar Bunzigiye is a writer\, cultural worker\, and emerging curator. Their multidisciplinary practice spans literature\, media\, and public storytelling\, with a particular focus on amplifying Black voices. Star is the founder behind We Look Good in Black\, a digital fashion archive that documents and celebrates the rich\, often-overlooked contributions of Black designers\, stylists\, and cultural icons. \n\n\n\nWith a background in journalism\, digital outreach\, and community engagement\, Star has contributed to publications including This Magazine\, Sumou Magazine\, and Achipel. They’ve been featured in art exhibitions at Ada Slaight Gallery\, Sankofa Square\, and WIP Gallery. They also have curated and moderated arts events across Toronto and Montreal. Their current work is grounded in a belief that fashion\, storytelling\, and culture are interconnected tools for resistance\, liberation\, and self-definition. Star is passionate about fostering intentional\, inclusive spaces for artistic expression that honour legacy while imagining new futures. \n\n\n\nThe 2025 Guest Curatorship Mentor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKym Dominique-Ferguson is an award-winning Montreal-based spoken word artist\, actor\, and mentor celebrated for his dynamic performances and commitment to amplifying diverse voices. Born in Canada but raised in the Caribbean with Jamaican and Haitian roots\, his cultural heritage deeply influences his work\, blending traditional folklore with contemporary themes. As the founder of Madpoetix Productions\, he has hosted and curated influential events like Inside Madpoetix Studios\, The Phenomenal 5IVE and Madpoetix Soirée Open Mic\, shaping Montreal’s spoken word scene. His play Dear Black Man\, supported by the Cole Foundation\, Black Theatre Workshop and the Canada Council for the Arts\, explores identity and resilience\, earning critical acclaim. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 27\, 2025\, 4:00-5:30 pm ET\n\n\n\nDiscover three poets at our Literary Notes event during the Imagination festival! \n\n\n\nThe Morrin Centre joins forces with the Ligue d’improvisation musicale de Québec (LIMQ) to present a notewordy concert. Tune in to listen to readings by Jes Battis\, Domenica Martinello\, and Derek Webster\, accompanied by music improvised and performed by musicians from the LIMQ which captures the spirit of their poetry books. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJes Battis teaches literature and creative writing at the University of Regina. They are the author of The Winter Knight with ECW Press\, the Occult Special Investigator series with Penguin\, and I Hate Parties\, their debut book of poems with Nightwood Press. Their work has been included in Canada Reads\, and shortlisted for the Ralph Gustafson Poetry Prize and the Sunburst Award for Candian Literature of the Fantastic. The Winter Knight won both an Independent Publisher’s Award and an Indie Foreword Award. Jes is currently working on two projects: a nonfiction book on the film Labyrinth\, and a queer romance novel that combines witchcraft with the cozy mood of Schitt’s Creek. \n\n\n\nPhoto by Gino Visconti\n\n\n\nDomenica Martinello is the author of All Day I Dream about Sirens (Coach House Books\, 2019) and Good Want (Coach House Books\, 2024) and holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. The title poem of her most recent collection\, “Good Want\,” won the Malahat Review’s Long Poem Prize in 2023. For her prose writing\, Domenica won the carte blanche 3Macs Prize (2017) for a genre-bending work of literary criticism on Elena Ferrante\, and has published reviews and criticism in The Globe & Mail\, The Montreal Review of Books\, Canadian Notes & Queries\, and elsewhere. Domenica has been anthologized in Best Canadian Poetry 2019 and Best Canadian Poetry 2025 (Biblioasis\, forthcoming)\, and her work has been supported by The Canada Council for the Arts\, the Ontario Arts Council\, and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. She lives in Montreal. \n\n\n\nPhoto by Saleema Nawaz Webster\n\n\n\nDerek Webster received an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis\, where he studied with Carl Phillips\, and is the founding editor of award-winning arts magazine Maisonneuve. His first book of poems\, Mockingbird (Véhicule Press) was a finalist for the Gerald Lampert Award for best poetry debut in Canada and his second collection\, National Animal\, recently won the 2024 A.M. Klein Prize for Poetry. In the words of Pulitzer-Prize winning poet Diane Seuss\, “National Animal embodies the body politic\, entangled in war and estrangement\, and the human animal caught in a vanishing natural world. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, October 10\, 2024\, 8:00 pm ET\n\n\n\nConfabulation\, Montreal’s original autobiographical storytelling event is back for another night of stories\, true as we can tell them! \n\n\n\nFor October\, we’re presenting the suitably spooky theme Company’s coming — stories of house guests\, hauntings\, and other kinds of visitors. We’re expecting some unexpected takes on this theme. Visitors wanted and unwanted\, shocking arrivals\, and drop-ins of all kinds. \n\n\n\nWe’re looking for storytellers — so if you’ve got a story to pitch\, e-mail us at tellastory@confabulation.ca\, or check out our pitch form: confabulation.ca/tell-a-story. \n\n\n\nConfabulation stories are typically 6-8 minutes long. Each has received one-on-one guidance from a professional writing mentor to help them transition to the next stage of their careers. Now\, their journey culminates in a public reading where each mentee will present an excerpt from their work in progress. \n\n\n\nThis year’s cohort features: \n\n\n\nRaphaëlle Aubin\, mentored by Su J. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, May 21\, 2024\, 7:30 pmPresbyterian College Chapel (3495 University St.\, McGill University\, Montreal)\n\n\n\nAn evening of music and poetry with Melanie Power\, Ranee Lee\, and Svens Telemaque. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRANEE LEE is now celebrating over 40 years in Montreal\, Quebec\, where she enjoys a successful\, multi-faceted career as one of Canada’s most popular jazz vocalists\, an award-winning actress\, a songwriter\, and a proud author of children’s books. Ranee has recorded thirteen albums for Justin Time\, a proud discography of acclaimed recordings that feature some of the finest jazz musicians of our time among its sidemen. \n\n\n\nMELANIE POWER is the author of Full Moon of Afraid and Craving (McGill-Queen’s University Press\, 2022). Her work has appeared broadly in literary journals such as The Malahat Review\, Arc Poetry Magazine\, Poetry Ireland Review\, Prairie Fire\, Grain Magazine\, Southword Journal\, and elsewhere. Her poems have been shortlisted for the Montreal International Poetry Prize\, Arc’s Poem of the Year Contest\, as well as longlisted for the CBC Poetry Prize. She is currently pursuing an interdisciplinary PhD in oral history and literature at Concordia University. Born and raised in Newfoundland\, she now lives in Montreal (Tiohtià:ke). \n\n\n\nSVENS TELEMAQUE is an activist\, a spoken word artist\, a prisoners’ right’s advocate and so much more. A man who had walked the side of life which could have endangered his well being\, turned over a new leaf through poetry.
