SUMMARY:LAUNCH: Jessi MacEachern\, A Number of Stunning Attacks
DESCRIPTION:Join for the online launch of A Number of Stunning Attacks by Jessi MacEachern. The poet will be joined by the fellow Montreal writers Klara Du Plessis and Jessie Jones. The event will be hosted by knife | fork | book. \nThursday March 18 at 7 PM EST\nOnline Event hosted by knife | fork | book\nLink will be provided day of the event at knifeforkbook.com \n“MacEachern’s poetry demands attention to the stunning beauty of her craft. MacEachern taps into what poetry does best\, which is to bypass logical explanations and dive into an emotional core that here sings of strength above all.”—Manahil Bandukwala\, Quill & Quire\, starred review \n“In Jessi MacEachern’s spellbinding (and spellblinding) debut\, poems glint like slivers of glass but have the force of shrapnel. Shards of text\, taut with significance\, are read as if we are loosed in dream.”—Gillian Sze \n“Self-examining but never self-absorbed\, MacEachern’s poems are saucy and savvy; via a female gaze onto gender and spacings\, they pulse with uneasy but hard-won life.”—Erín Moure

SUMMARY:Research and Creation
DESCRIPTION:Open to all. \nLimited to 12 participants. \nWhich comes first\, the research or the writing? For many works of fiction and non-fiction\, research is an ongoing process with potentially different goals and outcomes depending on where it occurs during the project. \nThis workshop is for writers who do not necessarily consider themselves to be academics\, but who wish to engage in research as part of their creative works for the sake of accuracy and authenticity\, and perhaps also to transcend the constraints of what is recognized as possible. \nParticipants will be introduced to the different forms of research-creation\, as well as how to evaluate resources. They will also be presented with scenarios where it may be impossible to confirm a claim\, as well as situations where a writer may make the informed choice to work outside of established facts.

SUMMARY:Reflective Writing: A Workshop on Cross-Cultural Writing
DESCRIPTION:Please note this workshop will take place over two sessions: \n\nSession 1: Wednesday\, March 10\, 2021 @ 1:30-3:00 p.m.\nSession 2: Tuesday\, March 16\, 2021 @ 1:30-3:00 p.m.\n\n\n\n\nThis online workshop is being produced in partnership with the Atwater Writers Exhibition. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome. \n\n\n\nLimited to 15 participants. \n===================== \n\n\n\nHow do you create characters and situations that have a ring of truth to them when the stories you want to tell are not from your own background or culture? \n\n\n\nThis workshop will give participants a deeper knowledge about the pros and cons of cross-cultural writing and a chance to hear established writers talk about their own experiences with and advice about writing about peoples of other cultures and realities. Participants will be able to access a blog with workshop materials including videotaped interviews and writing examples. The blog will also provide a platform for participants to discuss issues both during and between the workshop sessions and to post writings of their own for feedback. \n\n\n\nAll you need to bring is curiosity and a sense of exploration. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nThis is a FREE workshop. To register\, please click here to email Elise Moser. \n====================== \nPhoto: Watsenniostha Valerie David\nDan David says he’s won several awards for feature writing and essays but the one he cherishes the most is for “best storyteller.” He’s a former construction worker\, broadcast journalist\, magazine writer\, and world traveller based (for now) at Kanehsatake Mohawk Territory\, near Oka.

SUMMARY:Strange Futures Book Club: Future Home of the Living God
DESCRIPTION:The Strange Futures book club focuses on sci-fi and speculative fiction by QT/BIPOC writers. “Strange Futures” speaks to the unknown worlds that are to come–but also to the strangeness that is ascribed to marginalized voices\, and how such strangeness can actually be generative\, challenging\, discomforting\, and revolutionary. Join us for the discussion! \nWhere and How Can I purchase the book?\nFind the book here: https://bit.ly/3op1nHN \nMore info on our webstore here:\nhttp://mtl.drawnandquarterly.com/posts/webstore-faq \nWe Ship Canada-wide!\nBy purchasing your book at Librairie Drawn & Quarterly you help support events like this one\, independent publishing and retailing\, our neighborhood\, and authors both local and from around the world who depend on independent bookstores for their livelihood. Your support is appreciated.
