SUMMARY:Baie-D’Urfé Library Open Mic Night
DESCRIPTION:Barbara Burgess\, a QWF member and Montreal author\, will read a few pages from her latest novel The Cacouna Caves and the Doorway to the Golden Planet: Book Two in the Cacouna Saga. The open mic event will take place at the Bibliothèque de Baie-D’Urfé (the Baie-D’Urfé Library) on May 30 at 7:30 PM. \nBurgess’ novel is set in Quebec\, this time in a not-too-distant future age. The first part of the novel is dystopian\, as it deals with a world ravaged by climate change. The second part of the novel is utopian and presents an idealistic vision for the future of humankind and our planet. Her website is www.thecacounacaves.com \nBurgess will participate in the open mic event—along with fellow QWF members Louise Carson and Merryl Hammond—on the West Island on May 30.

SUMMARY:One Poem\, Many Voices: A Workshop on Writing Collaboratively
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is FREE and OPEN TO ALL. Registration is NOT required. \nCollaborating in the creation of a poem connects us deeply with each other. The process is always full of surprises — dynamic\, inventive\, and fun. \nIn collaboration\, we get to see how people really understand our words. They take them up and go places with them\, unexpected places! Through listening and responding\, we open doors we didn’t know were there: doors in our selves\, in our perceptions\, in each other. \nThis workshop engages participants in a variety of approaches to writing poems collaboratively. \nYour workshop guides\, Mary di Michele and Susan Gillis\, have more than a decade of experience in writing poetry collaboratively. In addition to their active individual practices\, they have written and published together as members of Yoko’s Dogs since 2006. Susan’s fourth book of poetry\, Yellow Crane\, appeared in 2018. Mary’s twelfth book and latest collection of poetry\, Bicycle Thieves\, was published with ECW in 2017. \nThis event is taking place on the traditional and unceded territory of the Kanien’keha:ka. \nGenerously supported by the Community Cultural Action Fund (CCAF) of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
