SUMMARY:Mona Awad and Chris Boucher Double Launch
DESCRIPTION:Join us August 15th for the double launch of Mona Awad’s Bunny and Chris Boucher’s Big Giant Floating Head! \nAbout Bunny:\nSamantha Heather Mackey couldn’t be more of an outsider in her small\, highly selective MFA program at New England’s Warren University. A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people\, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort–a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other “Bunny\,” and seem to move and speak as one.\nBut everything changes when Samantha receives an invitation to the Bunnies’ fabled “Smut Salon\,” and finds herself inexplicably drawn to their front door–ditching her only friend\, Ava\, in the process. As Samantha plunges deeper and deeper into the Bunnies’ sinister yet saccharine world\, beginning to take part in the ritualistic off-campus “Workshop” where they conjure their monstrous creations\, the edges of reality begin to blur. Soon\, her friendships with Ava and the Bunnies will be brought into deadly collision. \nAbout Big Giant Floating Head:\nAfter his wife announces on Twitter that she’s leaving him\, Christopher’s life in small-town Coolidge just goes from one catastrophe to another. He contracts a strange illness that divides him in half\, undergoes a failure competition\, and is driven to join a cult called The Unloveables. How did it all get this bad? How can he regain his bearings\, and find meaning and love once again?\nHeartfelt and riotously imaginative\, Big Giant Floating Head is the daring\, dazzling account of a man’s struggle with love\, loss and redemption.

SUMMARY:Storytelling is a Love Language
DESCRIPTION:Storytelling is a Love Language (First Edition): brought to you by the South Asian Youth Collective \nDespite the increasing role of technology in our lives\, we continue to live for storytelling! Stories tell us who we are\, where we come from\, and bring meaning and excitement to our lives. Storytelling was the way in which our ancestors were able to pass down knowledge\, history and wisdom. Each one of us has an infinite number of stories within us\, and we tell stories every day\, even if we don’t think we do. \nThis event aims to de-colonialize the act of storytelling and aims to bring people together in order to share an intimate afternoon of sharing and connecting as authentically as possible. \nFor this edition\, we invite storytellers who are people of colour AND identify as women\, non-binary or gender non-conforming. Sign-up at the link below to tell a story\, any story\, between 5 – 8 minutes\, as long as it is on the theme of “Firsts”. Stories do NOT have to be: memorized\, “structured properly”\, follow any rules of English class\, etc. \nTheme: “Firsts”\nThe theme for this edition’s event is “Firsts” (fittingly\, as this is also our first edition of this event!) “Firsts” can come in many different forms: your first heartbreak\, first act of rebellion\, first words\, first period\, first love\, first understandings of feminism\, first time you heard a racial slur\, and so on. You may reflect on this theme in a way that resonates with you\, and we may learn that we hold many stories that were actually “Firsts”. \nTo sign up as a storyteller\, please fill out the following (brief) form:\nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdIE0F8BnR1mWwJy_xva4bLbBo2XSGE260O_R5vbSuGLvKqbw/viewform?usp=sf_link \n(there will be a limited number of spots for sign-up at the door) \nContent of oppressive nature (racist\, sexist\, transphobic\, homophobic\, ableist\, classist\, etc.) will not be tolerated at this event. \nIf you have any questions\, please feel free to e-mail sawccyouth@gmail.com. \nAccessibility: This space is not wheelchair accessible. There are steps to get into the building\, from there you can take the elevator to the third floor. \nCost: Pay what you can
