SUMMARY:VIOLETTE
DESCRIPTION:May 12 to 30\, 2021 – VIOLETTE – Theatre and Virtual Reality.\nViolette welcomes you into her world. She lets you enter the privacy of her room\, and then of her imagination. Only you. Step into her place as into the home of a friend; put on your VR headset; see a universe of snow and forest materialize in front of your eyes; become the sole witness to Violette’s untold story\, both magical and tragic. \nCreated and produced by JOE JACK & JOHN\, with Stephanie Boghen and Tamara Brown.\nSince its inception 17 years ago\, JOE JACK & JOHN’s goal has been to bring forward marginalised voices (collaborating with actors living with intellectual disability) and to make audiences reflect on current issues.\nVIOLETTE breaks down barriers while addressing a reality experienced by too many intellectually disabled women. During their lifetime\, between 70 % and 90% are victims of sexual abuse.

SUMMARY:Elixir of Life: A Free Verse Poetry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Emotions are like water\, they can be a stream or a tsunami. This workshop will examine what it means to flow around obstacles. How do we truly examine and express our emotions and their root causes in a way that brings balance to our mental health? How do we do this through a poetry-writing and editing process that is healing? Participants should be prepared to contemplate\, experiment\, question\, write fresh autobiographical work\, give and receive feedback\, co-create safe space and predict the future of humankind. Presented by the Atwater Writers Exhibition. \nWorkshop will be held on ZOOM. Space is limited. Register: awe@atwaterlibrary.ca. \nWorkshop leader Tawhida Tanya Evanson is an Antiguan-Québécoise poet\, author and artist. Her poetry collections are Bothism (Ekstasis 2017) and Nouveau Griot (Frontenac 2018); her novel\, Book of Wings\, is from Véhicule Press. With a 25-year practice in spoken word\, she has performed abroad and released studio albums and videopoems. In 2013\, she was Poet of Honour at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word\, receiving the Golden Beret Award. She is program director of The Banff Centre Spoken Word Residency\, sits on the QWF board of directors and produces interarts events. She moonlights as a whirling dervish.
