SUMMARY:Tracing Time in Percy Bysshe Shelley’s Poetry 200 Years Later: A Conversation with Professor Jonathan Sachs
DESCRIPTION:The summer of 2022 marks 200 years since the death of British Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Why does Shelley’s poetry still resonate with readers today? Explore the hidden depths and moments in his “Ode to the West Wind” as we consider the presence of time in the poem. How does the poem articulate decay and geography? Does Charles Darwin’s concept of “slow time” help us understand how Shelley envisions nature? \n\n\n\nThe Thomas More Institute is pleased to announce our upcoming webinar\, an evening of conversation with Jonathan Sachs\, Professor in the Department of English at Concordia University. Professor Jonathan Sachs will be interviewed by members of the Thomas More Institute on Wednesday the 8th of June from 7 to 9 p.m. ET on Zoom.  \n\n\n\nRegistration is required\, and the event is free of charge. A Q&A with the audience will follow the interview. All are welcome to attend.  \n\n\n\nView the readings that will be discussed here. \n\n\n\nJonathan Sachs is Professor of English at Concordia University\, Montreal. He is the author of The Poetics of Decline in British Romanticism (Cambridge\, 2018)\, Romantic Antiquity: Rome in the British Imagination\, 1789-1832 (Oxford\, 2010) and\, with the Multigraph Collective\, Interacting with Print: Elements of Reading in the Era of Print Saturation (Chicago\, 2018). Most recently he has co-edited\, with Professor Andrew Stauffer\, a new critical edition\, Lord Byron: Selected Works\, for the 21st Century Oxford Authors Series. Sachs has held fellowships at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and the National Humanities Center (US). \n\n\n\nRegister here.
