Evanson, Tanya

Tanya Evanson has been facilitating literary and performance workshops since 2005 in Canada and abroad. She is interested in the return of creative writing to its oral, poetic, mystic and rhythmic roots. With a five-year background teaching English as a Second Language, her education philosophy is based on the communicative approach and propelled by 20 years of professional arts experience. A Tiohtià:ke/Montreal-based, award-winning writer and spoken word artist, she holds a BA in Creative Writing and English Literature from Concordia University and speaks English, French, Spanish and Intermediate Turkish. She performs internationally, has released two videopoems, four studio albums, six artist books, and two published collections Bothism (2017) and Nouveau Griot (2018) live both on the page and the stage. She is director of The Banff Centre Spoken Word Program and moonlights as whirling dervish.
