There are exciting developments afoot for the Max Margles Writing Residency in 2024!

After two successful creation residencies in the heart of Dublin for writers Heather O’Neill (2023) and Tracey Waddleton (2022), the next Writer-in-Residence will be venturing further afield in Ireland’s beautiful landscape.

The Quebec Writers’ Federation is partnering with the prestigious Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan to offer a Quebec-based, English-language fiction writer the opportunity to spend three all-inclusive weeks in Ireland starting October 11, 2024.

The Residency, under the patronage of Roslyn Margles, offers travel costs, insurance, per diems, and a stipend of $2300. Accommodation and catering are provided by the centre.

The Tyrone Guthrie Centre

The Tyrone Guthrie Centre was established in 1981 and is Ireland’s foremost artistic residency centre. The Annaghmakerrig or “Big House” has eleven private bedrooms and offers residencies to international artists in all disciplines, from literature and dance to music and theatre.

Applications will open for the residency on Monday, March 18, 2024. Please keep an eye on the QWF Website and social media for details at this time. Applicants must be based in Quebec, have a mostly English-language based writing practice, and be applying for a fiction writing project.

The Max Margles Writing Residency is supported by Roslyn Margles in memory of her husband, Max.

“I am thrilled that the QWF has decided to change the location of the Max Margles Residency from Dublin to a location in the beautiful Irish countryside away from the distractions and noise of the big city. At the Tyrone Guthrie Center, the winner of this residency will have the opportunity to focus on their project in the company of other creative artists. There will be space and time for writing, contemplation, mingling with their fellow residents.”

Roslyn Margles
