carte blanche

carte blanche is QWF’s online literary journal. It was founded in 2004 by members of a Quebec Writers’ Federation workshop. Since then it has grown into an internationally recognized literary magazine. It is published three times a year.

Each year, the editors select the best submissions by Quebec authors and a juror chooses the winner of the carte blanche Prize.

Submissions

carte blanche has two submission periods, from March to May, and from October to December. They accept original, previously unpublished submissions through their online submission form only. They pay a modest honorarium, and accept fiction and creative nonfiction, poetry, translations (English translations of work written originally in French), comics, photography, and even potentially audio submissions.

The Fresh Pages initiative: Guest editorship for Underrepresented Writers

The Quebec Writers’ Federation is delighted to announce the call for applications for a guest editor for the Winter 2020 issue of QWF’s online literary journal, carte blanche. This opportunity is a component QWF’s new “Fresh Pages” initiative, and is designed to help an aspiring literary artist who is Black, Indigenous, or a person of colour develop skills in selecting and editing work for a literary journal.

The mentorship will go to a Quebec-based writer who shows promise and has demonstrated an interest in contemporary poetry and in the editing of a literary journal, but who has not yet had an opportunity to work as an editor. More information here
