Deadline: March 2, 2025, 11:59 pm ET
The Quebec Writers’ Federation is looking for new workshops and facilitators for our StoryScaping 2025-2026 program. We will be providing ten workshops for youth and/or seniors, in English-speaking communities all over Quebec, between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.
Facilitators who have already worked in the StoryScaping project are welcome to propose new workshops.
Workshops can be delivered online or in person, depending on the host organizations’ preferences. If you apply, you must be willing to travel within the province for one or two nights at a time (travel costs will be covered by the QWF).
We are currently looking for proposals from experienced workshop leaders in the following areas:
- Creative Writing (e.g., intro to creative writing, memoir, poetry, personal essay, etc.)
- Live Storytelling
- Spoken Word
- Comics-Making (with a focus on personal storytelling)
The goal of these generative workshops is to give English-speaking participants in isolated or underserved communities an opportunity to connect and to shape (or “scape”) their personal stories through wordplay and experimentation. At these sessions, which will involve six hours of contact time (spread out over three or four weekly sessions if online), some theoretical instruction should be provided, but the focus is to be on giving participants a chance to share their stories, document their lives, and read or perform their creative work.
Who Should Apply
Workshop leaders should have professional experience (publications or performances) as well as a record of leading creative workshops in their area. Experience working with youth and/or seniors is considered an asset.
Workshop leaders must be Quebec residents and available for overnight travel, as most or all of the workshops will take place outside of the Greater Montreal Area. In most cases, the contracts will entail one night away from home. Each contract will pay $1,000; travel, accommodation, and meals will be covered.
You can get a sense of the workshops that have previously been offered by visiting our StoryScaping workshops page.
If your workshop is chosen for StoryScaping, community host organizations will see your workshop in the list and can choose to work with you. Having your workshop selected does not guarantee that it will be chosen by a host organization, only that it will be among the options presented on the StoryScaping web page. Dates will be arranged as requests for workshops come in.
How to Apply
Interested candidates can apply by filling out the workshop proposal form on Submittable.
Your submission must include one file (.doc, .doc, or .PDF) containing the following:
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- 100- to 150-word bio
- List of publications/productions
- Description of teaching experience and approach to leading for seniors, for youth, and for intergenerational groups (maximum one page).
More detailed workshop description, including a rough breakdown of how you would spend the six hours assuming a maximum of 10 participants (up to two pages).
You may submit more than one proposal if you have experience working in more than one of the listed genres. Please submit a separate application on Submittable for each workshop proposal.
Note that in the online format, you will be asked to present three sessions of two hours each or four sessions of 90 minutes each. For live, in-person workshops, the format is generally a one-day session from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a lunch break. In your detailed workshop description, you don’t need to explain what you would do in all three scenarios, but we want you to be aware of them.
QWF actively seeks to maximize diversity in its staff, part-time employees, membership, and board of directors. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals, and encourage Indigenous people, people of colour, LGBTQ+ and gender-nonconforming people, people with disabilities, women, and members of any other marginalized group to self-identify if they are comfortable doing so.
