Deadline: Friday, July 10, 2026

If you are an established writer, literary performer, or worker in the book industry with professional credentials, QWF invites you to submit a proposal to lead a workshop in 2027.

About QWF Workshops

QWF workshops cover a wide range of subjects, and we welcome new ideas. Recent subjects have included short- and long-form fiction, poetry, non-fiction, translation, and children’s literature. There have also been workshops on self-publishing, book marketing, conducting research, freelancing, and more.

Most sessions are open to all. Occasionally, we offer an introductory creative writing workshop, or a master class requiring potential participants to submit writing samples.

Workshop Formats

Most workshops follow a hybrid format, with the majority of participants attending in person at the QWF office and up to two virtual spots reserved for people who can’t attend in person. We also welcome proposals for online-only workshops. Most workshops have a maximum of 12 participants.

Typical workshop formats include one-day Saturday workshops (10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) and eight-week evening workshops (either 5:45–7:45 p.m. or 8:00–10:00 p.m.). Proposals for other formats, such as ten-week advanced workshops or three-hour workshops, are also welcome.

How to Submit

To propose a workshop for the 2027 series, complete the submission form on Submittable. Be prepared to upload a single Word or PDF file containing the following items:

  1. Curriculum vitae
  2. 100- to 150-word bio
  3. List of publications/productions
  4. Description of teaching experience and approach to leading a writers’ workshop
  5. Detailed workshop description (up to two pages), including a week-by-week or hourly breakdown of the workshop schedule

Workshops proposals may be submitted any time of the year, but the deadline to be considered for the 2027 workshop series is Friday, July 10, 2026. Proposals received after the deadline will be considered for 2028.

The current rate of pay for workshop leaders is $135 per contact hour for a fully registered workshop. For example, an eight-week workshop (two hours per week, 16 hours total) pays $2,160.

QWF actively seeks to maximize diversity in its staff, part-time employees, membership, and board of directors. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals, and encourage Indigenous persons, persons of colour, LGBTQ+ and gender-nonconforming persons, persons with disabilities, women, and members of any other marginalized group to self‐identify if they are comfortable doing so.
