Because Internet Book Launch
Join the Argo in celebrating the launch of Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language – Gretchen McCulloch’s phenomenal new book about internet linguistics. With a strong grounding in science and an approachable, conversational tone, Because Internet is essential reading for anyone who’s ever puzzled over how to punctuate a text message or wondered where memes come from. It’s the perfect book for understanding how the internet age is changing the English language, why that’s a good thing, and what our online interactions reveal about who we are.
Gretchen McCulloch is the Resident Linguist at Wired and has also written for Slate, the Washington Post, Mental Floss, and The Toast. She is the creator of the daily linguistics blog All Things Linguistic, and the co-creator of Lingthusiasm, a podcast that’s enthusiastic about linguistics. She has a master’s in linguistics from McGill University and lives in Montreal, but also on the internet; you can follow her on Twitter @GretchenAMcC.
Doors open at 5:30; the event starts at 6. Free tickets for the event are available here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/gretchen-mcculloch-because-internet-book-launch-tickets-63127943378
