About the Book
On Nakharat, every contract is a ribbon, and every ribbon is a secret, braided tight and tucked behind a veil. Artificial intelligence threatens the tightly-woven network. Stability depends on giving each machine a human conscience—but the humans are not volunteers. In the midst of strife, individual people struggle to hold onto their jobs and protect their lovers, those trusted few who could draw back the veil. A collection of linked short stories originally published in Asimov’s and other fine venues. Includes an original novelette, “A Fisher of Stars.”

Her debut novel, Galactic Hellcats, was long listed by the British Science Fiction Award and her work has been called “everything science fiction should be” by the Oxford Culture Review. She also writes poetry, comics, and computer games. She’s the worst women’s professional football player you’ve ever met. By day she is a computer programmer in Cleveland, Ohio.

Erin Barbeau (ze/zir) is a nonbinary science fiction author and entomologist. When Erin isn’t poking caterpillars, they can be found enjoying alternative fashion and illustration. Zir work has appeared in Fantasy & Science Fiction and several academic journals.
Kristen Koopman is an academic, writer, and nerd. Her interests include blatant escapism, overanalyzing anything and everything, playing with dogs, and garlic. She is definitely not two smaller Kristen Koopmans in a trenchcoat.
