“The Art of Being Irish in Hell’s Kitchen: A Memoir on the Organizing of the Irish Arts Center in New York City, 1972-78”

Wednesday, August 7th, 7:00 pm
Le Librairie Port de tête (269 avenue du Mont-Royal Ouest, Montreal)
A launch will be held at Le Librairie Port de tete, 269 Mont Royal west, west of St. Denis on Wednesday August 7th at 7pm. This is a predominantly francophone book store and the discussion will be mostly in French even if the book is in English. Questions in English are, of course, ‘bienvenue’.
Dr. Jim Torczyner, Emeritus Professor of Social Work, McGill University, calls it ”A captivating, often humorous first-hand account of how young people…can transform communities through their own doing” and ”an exciting and worthwhile read for anyone interested in the rise of Irish culture in New York, community organizing, and transforming ethnic politics from the grassroots up”. Peter Quinn, author of ”Cross Bronx: A Writing Life”, says ” Blessed with the Irish gift for storytelling, Olwell is a rollicking fine seanachai. ..the seeds they planted have bloomed into a gleaming $60 million dollar Irish Arts Center”.
The book is $25, the wine is free and the welcome inclusive.
