Saying thank you to a Mentor

Hello Mr. McGillis, you probably don’t remember me, but 10 years ago you did a workshop at Vanguard Intercultural High School. I was one of the students fortunate enough to be in your workshop. I just wanted to let you know that the short time you spent in our classroom shaped who I am as an adult.

I’m 25 years old now and just finished my first screenplay. I produced, directed and starred in my first indie film and I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for meeting you I never would’ve been inspired enough to really think I could do it, as you were the first real author I ever met.

You always took the time to talk to me and answer all my questions, you were a constant professional and you were warm and kind and it has stuck with me ever since.

I’m wrapping up with 2 shoots left before post production.

As u get older and older I begin to see just how many influences make up who you are, one thing I try to do is acknowledge those that have helped along my journey.

So from the bottom of my heart I truly cannot begin to put into words the impact you had on me. Every day I spent writing, I was reminded of the time I spent with you and it was a constant source of motivation to keep going and with that I will be forever grateful.

Here’s hoping we cross paths again someday.

Cheers,
Desrick Walcott
