The Quebec Writers’ Federation and its partners, Champlain, Dawson, Heritage, John Abbott, and Vanier Colleges, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal, are delighted to announce the third annual QWF Prize for Young Writers.
Quebec has no shortage of shining literary talent, but for young writers, opportunities for recognition can seem scarce. That’s why the QWF Prize for Young Writers was launched in 2017: to celebrate emerging writers and showcase their work to the wider literary community. It has been so rewarding to witness first-hand the vibrancy and creativity of Quebec’s younger generation of writers, and we’re excited to open submissions for this year’s prize.
Open to all Quebec residents 16-24 inclusively, the prize rewards the best of published poems, short stories, and pieces of non-fiction (both creative non-fiction and narrative journalism) published in 2018. Successful applicants will win a one-year membership to the Quebec Writers’ Federation, as well as one of three prizes:
- 1st prize: $1000 & republication in carte blanche magazine (where rights are available).
- 2nd prize: $350
- 3rd prize: $150
The prize will be open for submissions between April 1st, 2019 and June 14th, 2019.
Submissions must have been published English in 2018 in an official literary publication; this could include school/university newspapers, community blogs, magazines, literary journals, grassroots zines, or any other publication with a selection process. Applicants must be residents of Quebec, but are welcome to submit work published outside of the province.
Submissions are made via Submittable and require no fee, and all eligible writers are encouraged to submit work, regardless of experience or education. The winners of the 2019 QWF Prize for Young Writers will be announced at the QWF Awards Gala on 5 November, 2019.
