Feldman, Perle

Perle Feldman was a teacher of family medicine for over forty years, nationally known, particularly in the field of maternal-child health. Now retired from clinical medicine, she continues to write creative non-fiction stories. Her stories have been anthologized in short story collections and used to teach narrative medicine and medical humanities in schools across North America. Her writing skills have also made her a desirable collaborator in research and clinical publications.  She writes a bi-monthly blog for the Medical Post, a national physician’s magazine and has done so for the past ten years. She is currently in the process of collecting her stories into a book. As a lifelong passionate teacher, she believes that CEGEP students are at an age where learning how to read closely and write with style and clarity is an important skill for everyone.

She is comfortable with many teaching modalities and suggests a lecture about how writing stories and reading literature can make you better at your day job or help you get into the school you want. This could be of interest to students taking CEGEP English classes.

Other teaching techniques may include readings, roundtable discussions, and student-centered writing workshops. She has a reputation as an effective and engaging teacher, as well as an experienced oral storyteller working with the Confabulation Storytelling group.
