Gareau, Foster

Foster Gareau is a Montréal-based poet, editor, and educator pursuing an MA in Creative Writing at Concordia University, where he works as a teaching and research assistant.

His debut chapbook, Folded Oceans (2026), was shortlisted for the Vallum Chapbook Award; his second, Sapor, is forthcoming from Pinhole Poetry, summer 2027. Since he began submitting his writing in 2024, his work has appeared or is forthcoming in more than 25 literary journals, including Arc Poetry, The Malahat Review, and PRISM international. A former co-editor-in-chief of Soliloquies Anthology, he is poetry editor of Headlight Anthology and a 2026–27 P. K. Page Poetry Mentorship recipient. His work has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts.

Through CAEO Québec, where he received the 2025 Volunteer of the Year award, he leads high-school workshops using storytelling, discussion, and participatory exercises to explore identity, diversity, and belonging. He was also selected as a mentor with QWF’s Quist program. His literary workshops encourage students to develop distinctive voices through attention to language, form, and lived experience, while introducing the practical dimensions of writing: submitting to journals, navigating publication, and building a sustainable creative practice beyond the classroom.
