Matlin, Julie

Julie Matlin’s work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Globe and Mail, The Montreal Gazette, Chatelaine, The Huffington Post, and other publications. Julie uses creative non-fiction to tell personal stories that resonate with readers, tapping into universal themes of family, relationships, love, and faith.

It would be Julie’s dream to introduce CEGEP students to the various forms that creative nonfiction can take (personal essay, lyric essay, hermit crab, prose poem, etc.); how to dig deep using writing prompts; how to bring your writing to the next level; how you can use writing to work your way through complex topics like faith and family relationships; and for the aspiring writers, how to get published. For these workshops, she would use a combination of on-demand writing exercises, open conversations with students, and reviews of some published essays on relevant topics.  She would also be more than happy to come in and do readings her own work or participate in panels and Q&A sessions.
