Michelle, Ceilidh

Ceilidh Michelle is the author of a novel and a memoir, was shortlisted for the Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction, and holds a master’s degree in Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh and a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing from Concordia University. The workshop she offers is Finding One’s Voice: The Art of Creative Nonfiction. It is important to create an atmosphere that is safe enough for students to become vulnerable to each other, so the aim of the workshop will be to help young people identify their stories by using their own voices through journalling and identifying key life experiences. Authors to be offered will be Mary Karr’s The Art of Memoir and What My Bones Know by Stephanie Foo. Nonfiction is cathartic and strengthening, and arming students with their own voices is the aim of Michelle’s workshops and life. Activities will include writing from observation, writing from memory, writing from object inspiration, writing from world events, and writing from journal entries.
