Petrovic, Branka

Branka Petrovic is a writer and the author of Mechanics of a Gaze (a poetry collection rooted in the life and work of Gustav Klimt and Emily Flöge), where she explored the intricate conversation between visual and literary art forms.

Her work has appeared in literary magazines worldwide, and has received recognition from several major awards. She was long-listed for the CBC Poetry Prize and the Ralph Gustafson Prize for Best Poem, shortlisted for the Gwendolyn MacEwen Poetry Competition, and awarded second prize in the Great Blue Heron Poetry Contest. She is currently developing stories for young readers.

Branka holds an M.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing from Concordia University and a B.A. in English Literature and Philosophy from McGill University. More information about her work can be found on her website: https://brankapetrovic.com/.

In the classroom, Branka can offer immersive, workshop-based sessions designed to bring students into direct engagement with visual artworks as catalysts for creative writing.

Each workshop can begin with a guided viewing of selected images—projected artworks or physical reproductions. Students can then be invited to generate new writing through prompts that encourage poetic or prose responses to the artwork, and to share their work in an inclusive, exploratory environment. Short, curated readings may be incorporated to frame each session.
