Michaela Di Cesare

Oral Literature & Performance, Screenwriting & Playwriting

Michaela Di Cesare is an award-winning playwright and performer whose work has been presented across Canada as well as in the US and Italy.  Michaela’s background is in autobiographical solo storytelling and she has led many workshops on this topic for teens, adults and seniors.  She can also run workshops in playwriting, or do readings from her work followed by a question-answer period. Most recently, her play Extra/Beautiful/U premiered with Infinitheatre as part of Centaur Theatre’s Brave New Looks.  Her play Successions is published with Playwrights Canada Press and her play In Search of Mrs. Pirandello will be published in an upcoming anthology by Guernica Editions. @michamusing on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Gillian Sze

Gillian Sze is the author of multiple poetry collections. Her latest book, Quiet Night Think, received the 2023 Pat Lowther Memorial Award. Gillian has also written books for children. Her debut picture book, The Night Is Deep and Wide, was listed as one of the Best Books for Kids in 2021 by the New York Public Library. Her work has been translated into Slovenian, French, Italian, Turkish, Hebrew, Spanish, and Greek. She lives in Montreal where she is an assistant professor at Concordia University.

Gerald Wexler

Gerald Wexler’s credits include; Margaret’s Museum, Genie for Best Screenplay; The Hunger, (writer/producer) the Showtime series featuring David Bowie and Terrance Stamp; Saint Urbain’s Horseman, CBC mini-series; Manuel, Le Fils Emprunté, 5 Best Film awards, competition Berlin; and numerous other TV and Film productions including Don’t Say Its Name, (Superchannel 2021), Best Screenplay award at a major genre festival.

Workshops and mentorships include Rogers/Black Screen Office, Bell Media Diverse Writers program and many others. He is available to talk to classes about the craft and business of scriptwriting and could give examples from his own and other films.  Also suggested is a pitching workshop where students in a class or workshop setting deliver an oral pitch for a short film or TV series for Gerald and the class to discuss. An experiential process like that is a great way to immediately get into the craft of creating a film or TV narratives.

Prudence Gendron

Prudence Gendron (she/her) is a Montreal-based writer, transfemme white settler, and educator. Her work has appeared in CV2, Antilang, and The Puritan, for whom she was a 2021 Pushcart nominee, as well as elsewhere. Alongside the above, she has spent over a decade nurturing Montreal’s vibrant DIY music and arts community, facilitating a wide array of arts events across several venues and collectives. She is currently working on a forthcoming solo album release, The Boys are Homophobic Sweethearts, and a surrealistic novel-in-prose, Bride.

H Felix Chau Bradley is a queer, non-binary Chinese-Canadian writer and editor. Their 2021 story collection Personal Attention Roleplay was a finalist for the Danuta Gleed Award and the Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize. Their fiction centers on Asian weirdos and misfits. It focuses on queer intimacy, relationships between diasporic parents and kids, alienation, activism, the music scene, and the pitfalls of becoming legible to others. Their work experiments with tone and form, often combining the mundane and the surreal. Felix is available to give readings from their work and answer students’ questions about story themes and structures and the fiction-writing process. They can also facilitate writing prompts designed to help students to write compelling dialogue, build tension in a scene, create a character’s unique voice, and other useful fiction-writing skills.
