Poetic Conversations

In this workshop, participants will select a published poetry collection whose world resonates with them, one that includes poems they would like to “dialogue with” for the remainder of the workshop. Weekly writing prompts will initiate a “conversation” with a chosen text from their book, an opportunity to engage with the source material on a deeper level.

The Ghost at the Heart of a Short Story

This workshop is a guided discussion about the plot, characters, point of view, structure, and language (the mechanics or “craft”) of participants’ short stories, as well as an investigation of each story’s aboutness, patterns, emotional plot, and central question(s)—that is, all those hard-to-define elements that make fiction what it is.
