They were so advanced I even brought in what I would consider very sophisticated exercises like the Sestina, which to my delight and shock, they completed. Sometimes they would arrive in class eager to share poems they had written on their own time, amazing! …

One of the most positive experiences for me since starting these workshops four years ago was the launch. So many people came together to make this a huge event which really shone a light on the girls and validated them deeply. One participant had family that ran a catering company that provided a huge array of amazing food for the event. The staff secured a podium and made sure the room was packed with family and workers. It really gave them the experience of being authors of a book at their launch.

They were brave, and read despite their shyness, some very personal poems. The room was rapt and it was truly amazing to see how the girls were so attentive to each other, really inspiring. I was bursting with pride and I could see how much it meant to them. It was a very great event and I’m sure the girls felt well supported and celebrated that day.
