Hybrid Workshop*

Want to tell your story? Or a story? What story have you always wanted to tell?

As Elders in the queer community, our stories are important to be shared, to be heard, and to be remembered.

This eight-week hybrid in person/online workshop is open to folks who have never written a story and to those who have. Mary Ellen has over thirty years’ experience creating work for the stage, collaborating with people of all ages and guiding people to develop their storytelling skills.

The first session will be in person where everyone will meet, learn how the online sessions will work and be given an overview of the eight weeks. The following six sessions will be online, and the eighth, last session, will be in person when the stories will be told. The participants will meet once a week for two hours to learn basic skills to create and tell their story. Mary Ellen will have one-on-one meetings with each participant over the eight weeks. The stories can be serious or comic or a blend of both.  Participants may use movement, puppets, music – however you want to tell your story – are all welcome!

Participants are asked to arrive with an idea of what story they would like to work on. It can be a beginning, an end, an image, a piece of music – it’s a place start from.

This workshop offers an opportunity to gather, deepen your community connections, and create stories with the support of each other. The focus is on having FUN, learning some new skills, and telling stories.

*This workshop will be delivered in a hybrid capacity, with the first and last sessions taking place in person at the QWF Office (Room 3, 1200 Atwater Avenue, Westmount, Quebec), and the six sessions in between happening exclusively online. There will be 2 fully virtual spots reserved for participants who are unable to attend any session in-person because of distance or disability. By default, all workshop registrations are for the hybrid spots. If you can’t attend any of the sessions in person and would like to request a fully virtual slot, contact Riley at riley@qwf.org and wait for confirmation before registering. Please do not register until after you receive confirmation that there is a virtual spot for you.
