This workshop is open to all aspiring screenwriters, from beginners to those who have already taken a workshop or two. Limited to 12 participants.

This workshop will help you adapt your ideas into scripts for TV, Film, Video, Web series, etc., and also show you how to craft pitches and other creative documents designed to attract producers and broadcasters to your material. In addition, you will receive advice as to which avenues to venture down in terms of seeking potential funding and/or professional representation and/or producing partners for your projects.

Topics covered will include:

Setting realistic writing goals; how to break down and analyze a script; the importance of feedback; analysis of produced work; story, structure, conflict, character, dialogue; the importance of rewriting and how to go about it; pitching; riders, indemnity waivers, non-disclosure agreements; contracts, agents, lawyers; development funding; and budgeting (time & money).

Please come armed with an idea for a film. It could be at any stage of development, from a log line to a synopsis, from an outline or treatment to a full script. It could even be scribbled on the back of a cocktail napkin, but ideas are essential.

Matt Holland is a screenwriter and story editor from Montreal. His writing credits include short films: "Drop Off," “Whistleblowers Anonymous”; episodic television: "Moose TV"; and feature film: “Gone Dark" (a.k.a "The Limit"). Matt was co-creator/co-writer of the comedy series Toi & Moi, which ran for three seasons on Ici Radio-Canada Télé and ARTV and streamed on tou.tv and Netflix. Matt has also worked extensively as a development executive for Telefilm Canada and the CTV network. He is a graduate of both the Writer's Lab and the Professional Screenwriting Programme at The Canadian Film Centre.
